Is there really no way to simply and quickly post a pic from my phone?
I don't want to jump through hoops to find a URL host and all the steps involved. On other discussion sites which don't have nearly the bandwidth or members as DU, I can post images from my phone quickly and easily with no 3rd party involved.
If DU doesn't enable that, WHY NOT??

(22,826 posts)DU does not use off-the-shelf software. Our software was hand-coded from scratch, and the last time we did a full rebuild was back in 2011. At the time, we did not include image uploading as a feature (except for avatar images, because they are tiny) due to bandwidth, storage space, and copyright issues. To be clear, these are still issues today, but the bigger issue is that if we wanted to allow image uploading, it's not a case of simply "enabling" a feature. We would have to build the architecture from the ground up, and the effort and time required would not be worth the return, since most people are fine just uploading to a third party site and then linking.
For what it's worth, probably the easiest way to do it from your phone is to use https://postimages.org -- you can upload an image directly from your phone without having to create an account, and you are immediately given a link that will work on DU.

I always end up with code in my post. I see that others don't.
Any tips?

(22,826 posts)That one will work without posting any additional code. A "direct link" URL will always start with https:// and end with .jpg or .gif

(14,142 posts)I posted mostly out of frustration.
I'm leaving for a local protest soon, and wanted to post pics of the protest signs I made.
Someone else pointed this out but I should have included it in my OP. If you are using PostImages, then once your image uploads, you'll be given a few different options for a URL to paste onto DU. The one to select is "Direct link" -- just copy that using the little copy button, and paste it directly into your DU post. The image will then appear automatically when you preview/post on DU.
