Why Dane County matters so much in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race

Both major political parties in Wisconsin are again viewing Dane County as important to win an election statewide and kill or save a range of policies.

The county's voters and their turnout, similar to the presidential election in November, are expected to play a key role in determining whether the Wisconsin Supreme Court has a liberal or conservative tilt.

For Democrats, the Madison area will be central to efforts to energize core left-leaning voters to complete early ballots or head to the polls on April 1.

For Republicans, the goal is to avoid a total wipeout in Dane County. In the last 20 years, no conservative Supreme Court justice has won election statewide without winning at least 21% of the vote in Dane County.
