The Resistance comes to Covington, WA...
Covington is a distant suburb/exurb southeast of Seattle; probably one of the more purple regions of an overall blue metropolitan area. When the first series of protests happened back in February (?), there was some confusion because the organizers posted two separate start times. I showed up at the second one, and there were about twelve people there. I heard that the earlier time has drawn around the same or a bit larger. I was hoping that todays protest might draw around fifty.
We got at least ten times that.
I dont have a full count, but we were lining both sides of the main road through Covington through much of the main shopping district, several people deep in some places. An organizer reported a head count of 371 on the other, less crowded side of the road. Id like to think we drew 1,000; that might be an overcount, but it was certainly well north of 500, probably above 750.
Lots of signs, lots of chanting. Also, lots of cars honking in support, giving us thumbs-up, etc. Also, of course, a few MAGAt trolls shouting insults as they drove past, but they were outnumbered by at least 50:1.
Now that the protest is wrapping up, some of the demonstrators are moving on to a second, just-scheduled protest in nearby Maple Valley. Well see what happens there.
