Shannon Braddock takes over for Dow Constantine as King County's first female Executive
For the first time since November 2009, King County has a new leader.
Following Dow Constantines resignation to become Sound Transits new CEO (he started at the agency today), Deputy Executive Shannon Braddock has assumed the post, becoming the first woman in county history to oversee the countys executive branch.
Braddock automatically became Executive as of the minute Constantines resignation took effect last night. But shes now set to continue in the role through November, with the Metropolitan King County Council having voted today to make her the interim Executive through November. Two of its members are running for the position (Claudia Balducci and Girmay Zahilay) as is King County Assessor John Arthur Wilson.
Its an incredible honor to be acting King County Executive. Im committed to providing strong and steady leadership for the people of King County and delivering the essential services communities rely on, from roads, parks and trails to public transit, health, safety and more, said Executive Braddock. Thank you to the County Council for entrusting me with the privilege of serving King County as acting Executive during this transition.
