Spring opening of Seattle's Waterfront Park delayed
The spring grand opening of Waterfront Park has been delayed by some months as a contractor dispute with the city hangs over the last big center-stage project the reconstruction of Pier 58 between the Great Wheel and Seattle Aquarium.
The city Office of Waterfront and Civic Projects and nonprofit partner Friends of Waterfront Park until recently said the game-changing $806 million park would open this spring. Last week, a spokesperson for the city office said the event now is anticipated to take place in late summer but could not provide a date range.
Angela Brady, director of the Office of Waterfront and Civic Projects, on Tuesday said the completion and opening of Pier 58 "remains as planned for this spring/summer."
The new pier includes a playground with a 25-foot-tall jellyfish-inspired climbing tower and tentacles with an 18-foot slide. A collection of crab-shaped wobble boards framed by kelp-like poles frames the base of the playground.
