Washington State's heavily Democratic congressional delegation is exemplifying courageous leadership in perilous times

Although physically small, Senator Patty Murray has been a power forward in the United States Senate, which considers itself the world’s most deliberative body. The onetime Shoreline preschool teacher has chaired the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee. She is part of her party leadership.

At the same time, however, she has settled into the protective cocoon of a Capitol Hill veteran, with schedules prepared weeks in advance, appreciative audiences selected, and omnipresent handlers keeping a watchful eye over her interactions.

But the second Trump presidency, while a disaster for America, is bringing out the best in Murray. She ate Bobby Kennedy, Jr., for lunch at his Cabinet confirmation hearing. She has redoubled a commitment to women’s health care that began with her first Senate speech thirty-two years ago. She is pointing out that Donald Trump and Elon Musk — both extremely conceited men — neither know nor care about working families.

A fighter she, but what of the rest of our delegation in the “other” Washington?
