Seattle metro population ranks among the fastest growing in US

New U.S. Census data released Thursday corroborates what many in Seattle are noticing – more people.

Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro area added 66,666 new residents last year, the 10th-largest increase among all metro areas in the country.

The 1.6% growth rate brings Seattle metro’s population to 4.15 million. Since 2021, Seattle has grown by 128,279 people. It remains the 15th-largest metro in the country.

The rapid increase is a double-edged sword, though. While the growth provides a boost to the local economy, it can also generate unintended consequences, said James McCafferty, director of the Center for Economic and Business Research at Western Washington University.
