The Seattle Seahawks appear to have found their replacement for Geno Smith, at least for the short-term.
Just hours into the beginning of the NFLs free agent negotiating period on Monday morning, the Seahawks and 27-year-old quarterback Sam Darnold agreed to terms on a three-year deal worth $100.5 million, according to multiple reports.
The contract includes $55 million of guaranteed money and $37.5 million in the first year, according to NFL Networks Mike Garafolo. The deal wont become official until the new league year begins on Wednesday.
Darnolds $33.5 million annual average would currently rank 18th among NFL quarterbacks, according to OverTheCap.

(6,470 posts)the Seahawks are begging to have the shit kicked out of them this season. They have managed to wreck a pretty decent team.

(121,080 posts)The Vikings beat the Seahawks at Lumen Field last season. Darnold is a fairly decent quarterback and is younger than Geno.

(52,081 posts)He's been in the NFL seven years: three with the Jets, two with the Panthers, one with the 49ers and last year with the Vikings.
With the Jets: started every game from 2018 to 2020, went 4-7, 7-6 and 2-10.
With the Panthers: started 18 games in 2021/22, went 4-7 in 2021 and 4-2 in 2022.
With the 49ers: started one game and lost it.
With the Vikings: started 17 games, went 14-3.
What I'm concerned about is that 2024 may have been a flash-in-the-pan - namely, that the Vikings' OC and quarterbacks coach could FINALLY figure this guy out after six years of awful play. Will that carry forward into 2025 when he has to work himself into the Seahawks' system?
I think I would have been more tempted to promote the number-2 man on the depth chart to number 1, number 3 to number 2 and draft a number 3 in the fourth round. Darnold raises too many questions for me.
