Mountlake Terrace ramps up infrastructure spending to keep pace with growth

Mountlake Terrace officials are pushing forward the transformation of an 82-acre town center — a plan 50 years in the making.

The city's goal is to develop 3,000 housing units and 625,000 square feet of commercial retail space, according to the project plans. But before that can happen, the city's infrastructure needs to be able to support growth so it can attract developers.

“The problem isn’t convincing people to move here,” City Councilmember Bryan Wahl said. "The problem is not enough capacity to provide the housing that’s needed for people that want to come here."

Mountlake Terrace will spend $40 million, adding to the $29 million already invested in the town center planning for the second phase of the Main Street Revitalization Project.
