Snohomish County SAR members rescue ice climber from Mount Sloan

EVERETT — Members of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue unit hoisted an injured ice climber to safety Saturday in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.

At 10:40 a.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s office was notified of a climber who had fallen 100 feet at a high altitude on Sloan Peak.

An emergency distress signal was sent to the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, who notified the State EOC of the accident. The subject was reported to be located at the 6,600-foot level with a broken arm and a leg injury.

At 11 a.m., the sheriff’s office deployed its rescue helicopter, SnoHawk10, for Sloan Peak. The crew located the injured climber and his two partners on a steep, snow-covered ledge at 6,600 feet. The Helicopter Rescue Team was hoisted in, along with a litter, treated the subject and secured the injured climber in the litter. In addition to his reported injuries, the climber had head injuries.

That's hardcore. I climbed Mt. Pugh, which is close to this, back in the day but I believe it was September when I did it.
