Harrisonburg, Rockingham prepare for June Democratic primary
Election officials in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County are getting ready for Virginias Democratic primary election, which will take place on June 17.
Six candidates are seeking the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor. Levar Stoney, mayor of Richmond; Babur Lateef, chairman of Prince William County School Board; Aaron Rouse, state senator, D-Virginia Beach; Victor Salgado, a former federal prosecutor from Arlington; Ghazala Hashmi, state senator, D-Richmond; and Alex Bastani, a union leader from Falls Church.
Two candidates are seeking the Democratic nomination to run for Virginia attorney general against Republican incumbent Jason Miyares. Shannon Taylor, a former commonwealths attorney for Henrico County, is running against Jay Jones, a former delegate from Norfolk.
Mark Finks, Harrisonburg voter registrar, said he was expecting a low turnout for the primary because the governors race is uncontested. Historically, fewer people have voted in the lieutenant governors race.
