Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez Announces Intent to Seek Re-Election

EDINBURG – Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez will be seeking a third term as Hidalgo County Judge, he announced Thursday.

“For the last six-plus years, it has been my incredible honor to serve as your County Judge, and, along with our County Commissioners, we have made meaningful progress while being faced with unprecedented and historic challenges,” Cortez said.

“We have not reached our full potential and there is still much work to be done. That is why I am announcing my candidacy for re-election. Despite our challenges, we have seized opportunities. We have finished building your magnificent courthouse, increased our jail capacity, made major drainage improvements, built roads, constructed a state-of-the-art bio-safety laboratory and significantly increased our fund balance,” Cortez said.

“To reach our full potential, we must act as a major economic hub by developing strategic alliances to diversify our economy and develop a strong workforce to serve the modern businesses and attract outside investment,” he said.
