What Sugar Land voters need to know about June 7 runoff election day

Sugar Land residents have another chance to make their voices heard before the city welcomes a new mayor and two City Council members.

The race to replace Mayor Joe Zimmerman, who has reached the maximum number of consecutive terms allowed by the city continues in a June 7 runoff between William Ferguson and Carol McCutcheon.

Ferguson garnered 35.92% of votes, while McCutcheon had 28.57% of votes, respectively, in the May 3 election, according to canvassed results from Fort Bend County.

Additionally, Sugar Land voters will choose between Jim Vonderhaar and Maggy Horgan as the city’s next City Council At-Large Position 1 representative. Vonderhaar and Horgan garnered 37.12% and 20.69% of votes, respectively.
