Veteran election official tapped to lead South Carolina election agency

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina State Election Commission has selected its next executive director following a unanimous vote.
The commission voted 4-0 during a special called meeting Wednesday to appoint Conway Belangia as the agency’s next Executive Director.

Belangia brings more than four decades of experience as an elections official. Most recently, he served as director of the Board of

Voter Registration and Elections in Greenville County for 34 years. His career also includes time with the State Election Commission and in Orangeburg County.

During his tenure in Greenville, Belangia received the Moore Award from the South Carolina Association of Registration and Election Officials in 2018 and was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor Henry McMaster in 2026.
