Roughly 175,000 mail-in ballot applications have been processed as the Allegheny County Elections Division prepares to begin sending those out in the coming days, the division announced Thursday.

The county encouraged voters to not wait until the state deadline of Oct. 29 to request one, to ensure voters will receive ballots and be able to return them well before the general election on Nov. 5. Ballots received after that date will not be counted.

Voters can also choose to use the elections division’s “over the counter” voting service, beginning Monday, Sept. 30. That service — which allows voters to visit the elections office in Downtown Pittsburgh, request a ballot, fill it out and submit it on the spot — will be available from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on weekdays until Oct. 29.

County residents who receive their ballots in the mail can also return their ballots to staff in the elections office.

I highlighted the 3rd paragraph - because this is NEW and it's the closest thing to early voting that we've ever had in Pennsylvania. You must be registered to vote in order to do this, and I'm thinking there must be a requirement to show a photo ID as well.
