Lorain County returns to paper voter check-in for May 6 election
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Voting in Lorain County may take extra time during the May 6 election, as the state is requiring poll workers to check people in with paper, instead of the normal electronic process, the countys board of elections said in a statement.
Voting will continue electronically. But the county is deploying this paper check-in method, which hasnt been used in nearly 10 years, due to a directive from Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRoses office to counties that use a certain type of electronic pollbook.
Electronic pollbooks are tablets used by poll workers to check in voters when they arrive.
The directive came after election officials in Perry County, southeast of Columbus, notified LaRoses office that a newly purchased tablet violates Ohios election security standards, the Lorain County Board of Elections statement said.
