Ohio Primary Election: Voters to weigh in on infrastructure program; local issues and candidates

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Monday April 7 marks the deadline to register to vote in Ohio’s May primary election and early in-person voting begins the following day.

County election boards are open until 9 p.m. on Monday, April 7 for those looking to register to vote. You can also do so online at the link here. Tuesday, April 8 marks the beginning of early in-person voting and absentee voting by mail. Find the early voting schedule at the end of this story. Election Day is May 6.

Voters statewide will weigh in on Issue 2, deciding whether to renew a program that has funded thousands of local infrastructure projects. Its passage would renew the State Capital Improvement Project (SCIP) – allowing the state to issue up to $250 million in bonds each year for the next decade – and would not increase taxes.

The money is used by local governments to pay for critical infrastructure projects, like improvements to roads, bridges, waste water treatment and water supply systems. Learn more about Issue 2 and read the ballot language at the link here.
