Filing Closes for Town Elections
Filing for town elections closed on Friday, July 18th. In the Town of Burnsville there won’t be any changes as the incumbents all filed for reelection and there are no challengers. Incumbent Mayor Russell Fox filed for that seat again, as incumbent councilmen Randy Ollis and Bill Wheeler filed for their seats.
In Bakersville incumbent Charles Vines was the only one to file for Mayor. There are two council seats available. Four people have filed for those seats. That includes Gary Hyatt, Andy Palmer, Matthew Staton and Perry Wilson.
In Spruce Pine current Mayor Phillip Hise did not file for re-election. Current town councilperson Beth Holmes has filed for that position. Tessa Taylor and Larry McKinney have filed for the council seats.
Municipal elections are held on “odd” years and are scheduled for November 4, 2025.
