Monroe County political parties brace for possible DA special election amid uncertainty
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) The Monroe County Democratic and Republican committees said they will be prepared with candidates for a possible special election if District Attorney Sandra Doorley vacates her position.
A report from the New York State Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct indicates Doorley, whose term runs through the end of 2027, plans to leave her post. This all follows a controversial traffic stop April 22, 2024 at Doorley's home that was captured on police body-worn cameras and prompted multiple investigations.
During a deposition with the commission in March, Doorley said she "wish you'd just let me retire." However, Doorley released a statement Tuesday indicating she will remain in her position, though its unclear for how long.
In the meantime, Stephen DeVay, the chairman of the Monroe County Democratic Committee, is getting ready for the possibility of supporting a candidate for a special election.
