Cuomo nets key endorsement from Adams ally
Harlem Assemblyman Eddie Gibbs, a key ally to Mayor Adams, is endorsing Andrew Cuomo’s 2025 campaign, a blow to the embattled incumbent.
Gibbs, who was endorsed by Adams for his East Harlem-based seat in 2022 and has been a prominent booster of the mayor’s Albany agenda, announced his endorsement of Cuomo in a statement provided by the ex-governor’s campaign.
“Andrew has always fought for our communities, and I’m proud to support him for mayor of New York City,” read Gibbs’ statement. “He’s the leader we need to take on the tough fights and make this city work for everyone, including hardworking New Yorkers fighting for a second chance.”
Vito Pitta, Adams’ reelection campaign attorney, didn’t return a request for comment. Gibbs, the first formerly incarcerated member of the state Legislature, didn’t return calls.
