Kushner Companies' nearly $1B Jersey City tower project hit with stop work orders

By Stephanie Loder | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

Four subcontractors working on a Kushner Companies’ nearly $1 billion construction project at One Journal Square in Jersey City have been issued stop work orders by the state officials.

The state Department of Labor’s Division of Wage and Hour Compliance cited subcontractors for issues including worker misclassification, unpaid or late wages, overtime rate and earned sick leave, officials said.

The contractors include MJQ Drywall Group of Irvington, 506 Painting of Irvington, Exxon Development of Philadelphia, and Oliveria General Services of Edgewater Park.

The subcontractors are working on The Journal at 1 Journal Square, a property owned by Charles Kushner of Kushner Companies.
