I have never been in a situation like I am in as far as trying to find a sensible apartment or townhome that we can afford around here. And, it is not just that no one wants to rent to anyone that is not worth at least five digits a year, it is the constant realization that the whole thing is like a mobster trying to get his boss to not kill him. It really sucks. And, it is not looking good.

(124,159 posts)I know the rental market is tough around here - there's a lot of new construction but I assume it's all pretty expensive. Wish I had some advice for you.

(7,635 posts)The whole thing is insane. They don't want to help people find homes. They want certain people to find homes. The rest (like the old gay guy who is disabled but can't get anything because reasons) are just not worth the time. Add in the fact that I am not rich and this is almost pointless.

(7,635 posts)Yes we have a car but it is a 2006 and was our desperation purchase after our other vehicle decided to screw us over. We still need to be somewhat close in case the vehicle fails and he has to find other means to get there (that won't take three hours to navigate).
I am over 55 but my hubby is not. I don't know if that would be allowed.
I wonder what they would say if we just started living under an overpass?

I would think if you're over 55, that would be qualifying regardess of your parterns age.
I'm so sorry you're having trouble finding a suitable place to live.

(7,635 posts)Based on the sites, they are out of our price range. However, I will check into them more later on.
Right now, I am still shaking and feeling mildly sick over yesterday and today. I had been doing so well at trying to keep my AAD and my depression from getting triggered as both are extremely susceptible to moving pressures. Now, they are all going off in a big way and it is all I can do to keep from screaming or crying. I want this to all end. I wish I was not such a failure. I wish I could give my husband the life he deserves. I wish this society had not lost its humanity.
I wish I were not here.

And, one day, they might.
I have found that such agencies mostly focus on home purchases. But, I hope to find out if they can.

(7,635 posts)Mainly, that the term 'flat broke' seems to have changed its definition.
These days, it seems to imply that you are down to your last $50,000 or the like.
Traditionally, it means that you do not have two pennies to rub together.
I fall in to the second category.
Which means, for all intents and purposes, I am a second class citizen. I am supposed to be out there making someone else richer. Not sitting at home doing nothing. (Which is how they look at it. If I can breathe, I can be making someone else richer. Since I cannot magically create any wealth of my own, that is.)
