Ex-Michigan House aide (R) to face trial on embezzlement charges
Lansing A judge decided Wednesday that a former Michigan House aide who's accused of misusing a $25 million grant he secured for a health park in Clare should face a trial on a series of felony charges.
In announcing her order, Judge Kristen Simmons of Ingham County's 54A District Court said David Coker had failed to disclose to state employees that he was making money off the project.....
Coker set up a nonprofit organization named Complete Health Park in June 2022 and won the $25 million grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to oversee the project less than seven months later.
According to court records, Coker allegedly used a separate consulting for-profit business called IWC to invoice Complete Health Park at least twice in December 2022: Once for roughly $182,000 and another time for about $638,000. Court documents indicated Coker spent that money on vehicles, firearms, accessories and precious metals.
