Maine Speaker calls for resignation of Wilton lawmaker (R) who violated campaign finance law

Maine House of Representatives Speaker Ryan Fecteau is calling on Republican state Rep. Randall Hall to resign for violating campaign finance laws.

“Your illegal actions have violated the public’s trust in the office you currently hold,” Fecteau wrote in a letter to Hall, after the Wilton representative pled guilty Tuesday to unsworn falsification and criminal violation of the Clean Election law.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the plea agreement dismissed the 10 charges of aggravated forgery in the original indictment. Hall had been accused of falsifying signatures on the paperwork filled out by donors who give qualifying contributions to clean election candidates.

In the letter, Fecteau told Hall that if he does not resign, he will refer the matter to the House Ethics Committee, “which will convene in earnest to determine its recommendation to the full House.”
