Kenton County Election Board rep leaves after 11 years

Scott Kimmich, the Republican Party representative on the Kenton County Board of Elections, announced Monday morning that he would not be returning to the board after 11 years of service.

I think 11 years is long enough,” Kimmich told LINK nky. “I think term limits are a good idea in most cases, and in this particular case, I think it’s time to go on. I’m looking at some other opportunities, and, as I explore those opportunities, I don’t want to serve on the board for three months of another term and then step down.”

Officially, Kimmich’s term ends June 30. County Board of Elections party officers are appointed by the Kentucky Board of Elections after local party offices submit five candidates to the state. The other two members of the board are the county clerk and the sheriff. The county attorney serves in an advisory, non-voting role.

Democrat Representative Bryce Rhoades also expressed a tentative desire to leave due to scheduling conflicts with his job, but did not make any final decisions on Monday, saying that he’d be willing to wait while the state sought out a replacement for Kimmich.
