hasn't voted for a Republican for Governor since 2002, Has 2 Democratic Senators, has had a Democratic House majority for several years, massive Democratic majorities in both the state senate and state general assembly, and a Supreme Court entirely appointed by Democrats. Like all states (even California and New York) there are very conservative regions in the state (and hence Congressional Districts that will never vote for a Democrat no matter how bad the Republican candidate may be), but overall it is very strongly Democratic state at this point.

45. Unfortunately, Colorado's 4th District is pretty much guaranteed to always elect a Republican
Thu Dec 26, 2024, 08:14 PM
Dec 2024

Republicans won the district by margins over 20% every year since 2012, until 2024 when Boebert won by just 11%. Boebert got just 53% of the vote, by far the lowest Republican share since 2010 when the district was less gerrymandered in favor of Republicans than it is now). That's why Boebert ran there because her old 3rd district is much more balance than the 4th and she probably would have lost there (she won by just over 500 votes in 2022).

Unfortunately for your cousin, living in the 4th district, she's going to have a Republican representative regardless. Once Boebert won the primary, she was guaranteed to win the general election (although it was much closer than previous Republicans in the district won by). She probably won the primary due to name recognition - she only got 43% of the vote but the balance was split amongst a bunch of others. I would guess there is a chance that a "less insane" Republican could beat her in a future primary, particularly if it is a 1-on-1 race. But she's guaranteed to be there for at least the next 2 years.

I feel bad for your cousin and would hate to live in a District represented by Boebert, but I live in the District in PA represented by Scott Perry who is just as bad (albeit not for all the same reasons). I really thought we had him beat this year but he barely squeaked by again.

Good luck to your cousin!

She has two daughters and the way things have been going, she's afraid for their future.

And I can certainly identify with both you and my cousin - I'm in New York and we were redistricted in 2013, inherited a moderate Democrat from up north. But he retired in 2015 and I went to his meetup to meet his chosen successor who I liked a lot, made GOTV calls for him. But he lost to what turned out to be a national embarrassment - Stefanik! There were protests when she was first elected, but she's been inexplicably reelected ever since. Looks like we'll be facing a Special Election but that's not even been scheduled yet.

These billboards went up all over the district after she appeared on national TV alongside Gym Jordan during the second impeachment hearings:

At least you'll be rid of Stefanik as your rep really soon. It would be great if a Democrat could win that seat, but if not, hopefully a halfway sane Republican will run. It seems that most Republicans in New York are not as crazy as the party as a whole (Stefanik being a really huge exception!). The longer the take to schedule the special election, the better, as that is one less Republican vote in the house for at least several months.

The night of the 2022 election, there was a Republican meetup locally and Stefanik took the opportunity to be the first to endorse TFG for 2024! I heard this from the husband of a long time friend of mine who ran for State Senate because the incumbent Republican was running unopposed. Unfortunately, she lost as well.

as we Dems in Colorado call her. Better off out on the plains in Rural Colorado. Her attempt to get a little bit of culture by going to the Denver Center of Performing Arts for a play this past winter was truly gross.......She arrived with her current "boy toy", both "goofed" up, and vaping while watching the performance, then the two were acting like a couple of small town kids in the balcony of a movie theatre, but on the main floor. They were groping each other, and they were actually kicked out, during the performance........

I guess they didn't know that the audience is under constant surveillance by HD video during the entire performance.....Someone leaked the video and it was something to watch......she tried disputing what was said, and then found out there was a video of the entire situation being reported and shown to the public......

A hard NO here. California was never a British colony, we have a population at least as large as Canada's, and more than half the population has little to no British roots. Then there's that whole monarchy thing: don't tell me they're just figureheads, they still cost a lot to maintain. I'd rather us be our own country.

What is it with this constant harping on merging with Canada?
