But you can fly an airplane at 10,000 feet without supplemental oxygen, so it is certainly considered still "breathable" air. The first two days or so working this lookout really tired me out. But I acclimated quickly, and was soon practicing Fire Lookout Zen: chopping wood and hauling water.

(26,254 posts)8. Just a steep, 500-yard trail up from the parking/trailhead.
The lookout sits on the peak with no need for a tower. But security sucks .. with respect to both wild animals (bears, cougars, and wolves) and humans .. and I'll never work an on-the-ground lookout again.
