(153,378 posts)I knew that eventually the rain would stop and then we'd see the snow! The tallest peak is 10,000 feet, so there you are.
Today could not have been more perfect: plenty of parking, a fantastic view and all the time in the world.

(153,378 posts)I sure did take it! My camera and lens were both approved of by Andy and I think he'd be proud to see these.
It is the best place to get this view, from the Kenny Hahn Recreation Area. Unobstructed views! You do have to walk a bit, but by gawd, it is more than worth it.

(153,378 posts)In the bad old days of terrible smog, you couldn't see them at all.
But after last week's storms, I knew we'd be in for some great views. And here we are!
Thanks for coming by today.

(13,837 posts)I've been to LA a few times, and the mountains usually looked like a dusty mirage on the horizon.

(2,533 posts)My wife and I have been binge-watching some Dragnet episodes lately and as we hear Friday intone this is the city we can see the City Hall is the tallest building in L.A. These days, you would barely be able to see the City Hall in that view of the skyline.
In Jack Webbs opening Dragnet monologues, there are interesting facts I have learned about Los Angeles. For a long time, no building was allowed to be taller than 13 stories because of the threat of earthquakes. I guess they have made significant safety improvements in building and constructing taller buildings since Dragnet ended its run in 1970.

(7,371 posts)Mount Baldy in the middle am I right?
Did you take those from Griffith Park, near the observatory? The view looks familiar.
I'm about 50 miles south of there, close to Disneyland. We've got a nice view of the mountains here too but the Santa Ana skyline is no where near as impressive.
CaliforniaPeggy
(153,378 posts)I believe that the tallest peak is Mt. Baldy.
I was at the far end of the Kenny Hahn Recreational Area which is perfectly positioned for these shots! I'm not sure where Griffith Park is in relation to this spot. It's located on La Cienega Blvd, near the Baldwin Hills.

(7,371 posts)The place I was thinking about is near I-5, near the zoo and the Gene Autrey Museum. Have you ever been there? It's an interesting museum, much more than just cowboy art.
I should post some photos I took at the old abandoned zoo sometime!
CaliforniaPeggy
(153,378 posts)You should definitely post your abandoned zoo photos! I can bet they're great.

Nice pictures. The mountains always look good with snow on them.
CaliforniaPeggy
(153,378 posts)Very sweet of you to say that, but I can tell you that there are many photographers in LA who do better than these!
The snow really makes a glorious difference.

(189,774 posts)Ive been to LA once. You dont see this angle very often.
Thursday will be 22 years since I proposed to my wife at Gladstones in Malibu at sunset. A day late (after Valentines Day) and a dollar short (no ring).
CaliforniaPeggy
(153,378 posts)Of course, the view is always there, but it's not always this beautiful. The snow makes so much difference.
I'm sure that you wife didn't mind the timing or the lack of a ring . . . after all, she did marry you.

I'll pm you a link to me, if you're interested!
That recreation area is full of wonderful spots. I don't know how many acres it has, but it's big! I go to see the mountains, which are at the far end from the entrance!
They charge for parking on the weekends, but not during the week. And I think they open at 6AM and close at 6PM.
It's a great resource!

(153,378 posts)We normally have the dusting on these mountains after rain. Not this time! It was very cold as well as wet, and those conditions led to this amazing scene!

(9,554 posts)water barely flows, a one foot rise in the path is a hill, mountains are simply majestic, and that composition is perfect

(4,167 posts)Powerful capture. I guess, because of the snow cover on the mountains. Gorgeous, breathtaking, Thank you for sharing your photos.
CaliforniaPeggy
(153,378 posts)The snow really makes a huge difference. I can just see the tops of the mountains from my house, and that set me on my way over here today!
I was not disappointed, and there have been times in the past when I was. But not today! It was perfect today.
You know how I am about sharing! What good is beauty if nobody gets to see it? It must be shared, and that's who I am.
