Notre Dame de Reims

[Old Crank]

A little lighter, metaphorically, than the early set of pictures. This cathedral is a bit younger in its current form than Notre Dame de Paris but is larger. It houses over 2,000 statues. Has a labyrinth on part of the floor. We stopped by for a quick visit on the way to Dieppe.

It's just magnificent.
The glimpses of iridescent colors along with the gray stone of the cathedral.
The heights that it soars, taking our consciousness with it all.
The solemn beauty that surrounds us.

3. They need to demolish these old buildings, build modern structures, to give

contractors and engineers some work.

4. Well, Notre Dame de Paris

is on an island, and between that and the flying buttresses, space was limited.

(Also de Rheims has no fire damage - yet.)

5. Very similar architecture

A lot of the French cathedrals have a Gothic style, with flying buttresses, gargoyles, and a rib vault ceiling. More specifically, it is a High Gothic architecture. Reims Cathedral is the first example of this. Later on, many of them became Romanesque.
