1. Great song, by a great singer. The Depeche Mode original is also great, of course, but Johnny Cash

was very serious about his faith.

He also had a lot of experiences and ideas that fit much better with New Age spirituality than RW Christian fundamentalism.

If you read his 1997 autobiography cowritten with Patrick Carr - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cash:_The_Autobiography - which is a really good read, you'll read about his near death experience, accurate premonitions of death by other people he knew, and his apparent belief that his son (based on what his son said and did) is the reincarnation of a boy who'd died centuries earlier on the Cash's estate in Jamaica. The Christian fundamentalists I've known would warn against such beliefs.
