I am grateful. I make these paintings in my basement and it’s just me and my DH seeing them, so I’m thrilled when I get a chance to show my work to other artists because this can be a lonely hobby. 👩🏼🎨

I am not talented, but I have a daughter who is also an artist and I am always amazed at the work she creates. Actually, I'm a fan girl of all talents; having the will to put yourself out there is incredible. Kudos!!

(19,112 posts)she's done portraits (her business card is a portrait of her daughter), what I call stained glass art, she does work with tiny dots that creates the images, I own three of her abstract pieces, and she will soon be trying her hand at water colors. She has had three shows so far and all were very well received.
Re-reading the above, I'm sure you can tell that I don't know proper terms, just describing as best I can. She has a face book page under Camillustrations (Camille is her middle name).
Can you tell that I'm a little proud? 😊

(113,220 posts)which I was until my eyes gave out. The equipment is big and bulky and doesn't move very well, although some do take sample looms off to workshops. Backstrap looms and card loo,s can be portable, but of course I had to get the heaviest sucker I could find.
Then again, I have to admit I chose it because it's a solitary pursuit.
I can still spin by touch and my wheel is portable, but I never seem to want to take it anywhere.
That's a beautiful kitty, beautifully painted. Do you work from photos? I did back in the dark ages when I did portraits.

(*I was a tin eared Johnny one note and that note was always off key.)
As an artist, I compete, unsuccessfully, with my 5 year old grandson whose Papa (my son) and Mama (his beautiful wife) are both amazingly talented. My son, fortunate child he, gets his talent from my wife. My daughter-in-law gets hers from heaven above. My grandson will follow in their footsteps.

(10,945 posts)If you struggle with drawing accuracy (as I do) then you can use the grid method or other ways to ensure accuracy. (The master artists going back centuries used “tricks” like the grid method so really it’s not cheating.
This one was done in soft pastel, so no brushes were used, just pastel sticks, but I think if I had painted this in oils or acrylics, a speciality brush would have been helpful. But some artists I admire go for photorealism and use very fine small brushes to paint every detail.
