Looking for ideas for a song for a Mother/Son dance at a wedding.

I have until March 10th to figure this out. As much as I love most genres of music, I'm pretty stumped but am considering My Wish by Rascal Flatts if I can't find something else. For the life of me I can't remember what song my MIL/hubby danced to at our wedding, or what one my dad and I danced to. Unfortunately, there are no grandmothers/grandfathers alive to ask. So many of the ones listed on Pinterest or YouTube are for Father/Daughter.

Did you have a special Mom/Son song at your wedding reception? Please share if you remember

It was nothing choreographed. I sent him a link to it, and he liked it. We didn't practice anything, just kind of ad libbed as we went along.

I picked it because he was something of a free spirit and rebel as a little boy. The line "...and the devil would call my name" seemed quite appropriate. We got several compliments on it.

He's 33 now, and he and his delightful 31 yr old wife are expecting their first baby in August - a boy, and the prenatal genetic testing showed no major anomalies.

I feel weird picking out something that talks about all the qualities of a mom. 🙃

I've been playing in wedding bands for ages. Just searched through my email, and these are some of the ones we've played recently.

Best Of My Love (The Emotions)
Forever Now (Michael Buble)
Simple Man (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Tot Je Weer Van Me Houdt (Bart Peeters)
I Cross My Heart (George Strait)
A Song For Mama (Boyz II Men)
Landslide (Fleetwood Mac)
Days Like This (Van Morrison)
Mom (Garth Brooks)
Blackbird (The Beatles)
Forever Young (Rod Stewart)

My personal opinion is to avoid anything that shows up at the top of search results for "Mother/Son dance", as they're inevitably trite garbage specifically written for such occasions. They're usually called things like "Song For My Son".

Hes been very selective on his choices, staying away from some of the really trendy or viral suggestions. I want it to be meaningful, and like you said, not the top hits from a search engine.

Looks like I have my listening cut out for me!

There is live music (string quartet) for the wedding, a videographer (ceremony only - something hubby and I regretted not having at our own wedding), and a cannon shot after their first kiss as husband and wife. Having the disc jockey at the reception means music selection is pretty much unlimited for the duration of the evening. He hired an artist to paint a large picture of the venue (Hagley Museum) then all she’ll have to do is paint them into the foreground on the day of the wedding. It’s on Pi-Day, so they’re only having a cutting cake for pictures with a top layer to freeze for their 1st anniversary. For everyone else, there will be individual mini pies to choose from, including gluten free and vegan options for dessert.

So looking forward to it, but nervous about the dance.

When hubby and I got married, we had musicians pulled together from the local area - a baroque flute, a viola da gamba, and a harpsichord. So sorry we didn't think to video or audio tape that.

You can check the year of his birth and see top hits, even of the week he was born. Or a song played during a celebration, event or milestone. Maybe a song you remember he liked during his younger years.

I haven't been to a wedding for many years. The only thing I can remember is getting a dj for my older daughter's wedding, not a single song he played. He picked all of the music. If you have a dj, maybe you can ask them for ideas.

I can remember my younger daughter not wanting The Chicken Dance played at hers, and our cousin requesting it anyway, as a joke. Luckily, people smiled instead of stepping outside

Whatever song you pick, it'll be perfect.

By Elton John. I'm not even a big EJ fan, but it's a pretty song and you could turn turn "Your Sing" into "Our Song" between you & your son, because of the moment.
It's not dirge slow, but still a nice ballad.
