(22,265 posts)Maternal grandparents from Michalovce. Paternal grandmother I believe from Ukraine just over the border. Paternal grandfather from Czechoslovakia.
I found my maternal grandparents on the ship's manifest that they came over on.
I remember them using words that appeared Austrian/Hungarian and even Polish based. The cultures overlapped it appears.
I was 'immersed' into Carpatho-Rus Eastern Orthodoxy. Still attempting to adhere. I fall many times, but then brush myself off n start all over again.
This video just 'appeared'. Meant to be? 😄
We'll talk more soon...🫡

(15,768 posts)of my mom and grandmother on the ship!! Very exciting..Growing up in western PA my mom did not speak english till she was five years old. My fathers fam was from Minsk in what is now Belarus. My grandfather Max got wind of his unit being sent to the Russo-Japanese meat grinder The family bailed out and went to Canada. Eventually they came down south to the Eastern US...
I would love to visit the Carpathian mountains. They look lovely.
I watched a vid where Ukraine sends troops to the mountains to decompress from the effects
of this horrible war...
