After losing 15k in my retirement

Since Monday and reading story after story of horrible news on the loss of our democracy, I need to step back.

Went for a swim already today. Headed out for a walk. Probably watch some sports. Maybe set up the garden beds - though it’s still cold up here.

I’ll head to the protest this afternoon. But until then, it’s just too much for my brain, body, and spirit to handle. 😢

the day you retire. When I retired in 2009 my 401k was a 201K but I also had a defined benefit
pension I could depend on. Back when employees had defined benefit pensions you knew what you
could count on the rest of your life. They want to do the same with SS now. I am surprised so far Musk
hasn't also attacked the PBGC.

“Some days it’s a struggle not to fall down an abyss of grief and despair.” Or words to that effect.

It is hard for me to imagine ANYONE who thinks this country is going in the right direction.

It’s good to take some time for ourselves. Recharge our batteries so to speak. And to remember you aren’t alone because we are all like minded here on DU.

So many others have lost their jobs. How can one do so much damage to so many.

Most of the time it goes up. In the long run it goes up.

Buying and holding is the best strategy.

9. We've lost 100,000 grand in our thrift savings plan, and another fifty thousand in the value of our home.

We are telling ourselves, still 3-5 years away from retirement, maybe the markets will recover within that time.

If we lose 100% of our saved funds, so will the rest of America lose their 401Ks. So will rich people lose all the funds they have invested.

Is everyone really going to stand around and do nothing while Trump burns the US to the ground?

Rhetorical question, I know.

Somewhere around $300,000 in the last couple weeks. I can't even look anymore. Fortunately my mutual funds have fared okay.
