Reporting back on my ZZ Top experience

Last edited Fri Apr 4, 2025, 11:12 AM - Edit history (1)

For backstory see https://www.democraticunderground.com/100220204003

First thing: I've never seen so many cowboy hats in Flint, Michigan!!! Damn!!!

Second of all, turns out the friend was 'friendly' and I suspect my niece's FIL was given a talking to before they left for the concert. She and her husband are both very progressive so maybe he reins it in when visiting. He was unusually quiet but he was pleasant and gave me a big hug just before bro and I headed home.

As for the concert, WOWWWWW!!!!! The Capitol Theater was packed and the crowd was, to say the least, enthusiastic. Lots of people seat dancing and singing along with crowd participation in singing 'Sharp Dressed Man'. These two guys put on an amazing show, without having background dancers and pyrotechnics but with amazing energy and talent. I'm going to have an earworm playing 'Sharp Dressed Man' for the rest of the day.

I got to see ZZ back on their Eliminator tour in '82. I took my wife to see them again a few years ago, before Dusty Hill passed. We saw them at an outdoor amphitheater in West Palm Beach. I would go see them again. They always put on a great show. Concerts are fun and I always try to get tickets to at least one show every year. I like having fun things to look forward too. This summer we're going to see Toto with Christopher Cross and Men at Work. I can't wait.

I kind of think this was a part of my niece and her husband's plan to break me out of my overwhelming funk and anxiety. Even if it proves to be a temporary fix, it just felt good to forget about all of the bad and just concentrate on the spectacular.

Probably their first national tour.

Left the audience dazed for headliner Steve Miller.
