Here's to the last 20 or so years and 30,000 posts

I'm so grateful for this community. This probably the main way I have stayed sane for the past 24 years. I joined Du under the name my sister gave me (Bare Naked Liberal) which was quite challenging to use during many convos so in 2004, I changed it to WhiteTara to remind me that my aspiration is to live my Buddha nature.

I've made so many friendships here, and I feel part of your lives too from our daily interactions. Thanks for being my friends!

Here's to a full sweep this November, House, Senate, White House and a new improved Supreme Court.

It's a place that I literally couldn't live without so I deeply identity with your sentiment. I wish I had been here twenty years. I'd probably be a lot smarter. No joke.

My most favorite video is one from PBS The Buddha. Have you ever seen it?

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1478841/?ref_=ttpl_ov
I keep it in my player. Even watching a little bit gives me an overwhelming feeling of peace. I learned meditation in college and it's the best thing I ever learned.

I don't know if you remember but I helped with the campaign to save Mes Aynak in Afghanistan and there's a film about it. There are some incredible ancient Buddha statutes that were found there. I posted I lot about it here.

Anyway, congratulations again! I hope you have 40,000 more!

destroyed those ancient statues. I'm grateful that I have both DU and Buddhism to rely upon every day. The world is a beautiful and terrifying place, and the journey is easier with friends.

I hope you can check out the movie. It's unlike any documentary you will experience. It's a meditation in itself.

Richard Gere* and Blair Brown are the narrators. Their voices are incredibly soothing. To me the visual images that are used to explain The Buddha's life story are ethereal and mesmerizing.

Thank you for your reply, WhiteTara.

❤️

* Gere's interest in Buddhism began when he was in his 20s.[87] Gere first studied Zen Buddhism[87] under Kyozan Joshu Sasaki. After studying Zen for five or six years,[87] he and Brazilian painter Sylvia Martins traveled in 1978 to Nepal, where Gere met many Tibetan monks and lamas.[50] He then met the 14th Dalai Lama in India[87] and became a practicing Tibetan Buddhist (specifically of the Gelugpa school)[87] and an active supporter of the Dalai Lama.[7]

I've been thinking about it, tying to pace myself
To coincide with the election results
Anticipating a clear victory reported sooner that later
And working on the wording, thinking everyone will get it

I would have lost my mind without a place to vent my frustrations when the Supreme Court LITERALLY CHOSE that nitwit Dubya to be president. Little did I know how much a role DU would play in my life; yes INDEED.

A while back, I watched a documentary on PBS about the life of Buddha. It inspired me to do some research and learn more about the lessons he taught. I don’t know if it was this video but I will look for it and watch it. Something peaceful and inspiring about what I read..maybe it’s because I am not beholden to organized religion and personally have my reservations about it. Thanks for your post and I’ll look forward to another 30,000 with you as I find my way, too.

My study of Buddhism has given me a stable base to address the challenges of life. I don't spend enough time on my cushion, but try to live the basics. Compassion, gratitude and generosity.
