How Trump Has Made the United States a Soviet Paradise
Donald Trump is still living in 1985. Actually, much of the time, he appears to be living in 1954.
Trump was politically educated in the 1970s and 1980s by Roy Cohn, the New York fixer who taught him how to attack, never apologize and turn every accusation back on his accuser. But before Cohn became Donald Trump’s mentor, he was Senator Joseph McCarthy’s chief counsel and one of the most notorious figures of the Red Scare, the movement that destroyed careers, blacklisted Americans, and turned the word “communist” into a weapon that could be used against almost anyone.
Trump has never really left that world. Along with its godfather, Cohn, the Red Scare had a lifelong profound impact on him. So it should come as no surprise that in the year 2026, he is once again screaming about communists in order to gin up fear of his political opponents.
