Drastic cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs at the will of our own president is a completely unneeded and preventable disaster.
In the name of squeezing, limiting, and defunding federal agencies and programs until there’s almost no value left in them at all, nearly 28,000 VA jobs were cut – nurses, social workers, and mental health professionals – without cause and for no good reason.
The VA system handles everything from medical care to disability compensation to life insurance, and they run over 1,300 VA hospitals and clinics across the country.
As a result of staffing cuts, veterans themselves make up a smaller percentage of the federal workforce for the first time in years. Some 62,000 veterans were fired from their federal jobs, including 13,000 in the VA itself.
