Secretary of State Marco Rubio will host delegations from 65 countries Thursday for a summit on what the Trump administration describes as a resurgence of far-left political terrorism. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller are expected to attend.
Far-left political terrorism is a real and transnational threat that has existed for decades but is now experiencing a resurgence, Rubio is expected to say in his opening remarks, according to prepared excerpts obtained by MS NOW. Left-wing extremists operate across borders, maintaining the capability to train, recruit, establish digital infrastructure, fundraise and strike across different countries. The transnational nature of the threat requires an international response.
Civil liberties groups in the U.S. say they fear that Rubios gathering informally called the Antifa summit is part of the Trump administrations broader effort to target protesters they view as left-wing extremists.
Daniel Byman, a fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies who recently authored a study on political violence from the left and right, said the administrations focus on violence from the left appeared lopsided. We have potential violence from a range of sources, and the extreme right is one of them, Byman said. And government should be focused on that just as theyre focused on other concerns.

(107,108 posts)Are there any non-authoritarian states that actually openly accept this "left wing terrorism" BS, or is it just "humour the rich country, and try and get some money out of them without really supporting the nonsense"?

Everything some spokesman says in this article comes from Opposite World. I don't think they even know what ANTIFA means. They're comparing it to the Weather Underground. The only history they can actually come up with, and its decades ago. What's the current left wing equivalent of the Proud Boys? The January 6th traitors? Donald trump?
We will not permit the weaponization of Americas unparalleled [counterterrorism] capabilities for partisan purposes. Read the whole article to be truly outraged.

Hell, the reason they're going "transnational" with this bullshit is because they know damn well there's no real domestic far-left terrorism in a country where the Overton window skews so stupidly far to the right, and also because the regime has long been attempting to push fascism internationally and interfere with EU politics.
This is their petulant, childish payback for all the investigations into right-wing terrorism under past administrations, because THAT is actually a major, common, pervasive threat both in the US and around the world.
