At least 9 killed as Shiites storm US Consulate in Pakistan over killing of Iran's supreme leader

Source: Associated Press

KARACHI – At least nine people were killed and about two dozen were wounded in violent clashes with police and paramilitary forces Sunday after hundreds of protesters stormed the U.S. Consulate in the Pakistani port city of Karachi, authorities said.

The violence came hours after the United States and Israel attacked Iran and killed the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Police and officials at a hospital in Karachi said at least 25 people were also wounded in the clashes and some of them were in critical condition.

The U.S. Embassy in Pakistan wrote on X that it was monitoring reports of ongoing demonstrations at the U.S. Consulates General in Karachi and Lahore, as well as calls for additional protests at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and the Consulate General in Peshawar. It advised U.S. citizens in Pakistan to monitor local news, stay aware of their surroundings, avoid large crowds and keep their travel registration with the U.S. government up to date

A senior doctor at Civil Hospital Karachi told BBC News that nine bodies and at least 32 injured people were brought to the hospital after violent clashes with police near the United States Consulate General in Karachi.

Hundreds of pro-Iran protesters took to the streets in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad following US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

An official of the private rescue service Edhi Foundation also confirmed that they shifted nine dead bodies and dozens injured to hospital. Clashes started when police tried to stop demonstrators from entering the consulate complex. Police have not yet issued an official statement on the situation.

A UN official told BBC News that a United Nations office was set on fire in Gilgit, in Pakistan-administered Gilgit-Baltistan.

The hatred the middle east has for Americans is sky rocketing. I don't think any Americans abroad should feel safe right now.

The Idiot in Chief set a bunch of trash on fire without knowing it was covered in gasoline. Unfortunately the blaze flared up and set every thing around it on fire.

If there are any terrorist cells laying dormant inside the continental US, we will be hearing from them soon.

I was reading some magat comments regarding Kamala Harris's response to the attack on Iran. They (magats) spew garbage ranging from liberation of the Iranian people to stopping Iranian nuclear capabilities.

They don't think three steps ahead. If we're now in the business of liberating oppressed people, let's bomb Moscow and North Korea and 15 other countries.

When the Iranian government allowed US inspections of their nuclear facilities, we knew they didn't have nuclear weapons. Dimwit Donnie tore up that agreement.

Regime change? Sure. Change to what? Something worse? Did magats learn nothing from the Iraq war?

Can anyone confirm this version that was posted on X:

U.S. soldiers from within the American embassy fired at protestors gathered outside the gates, killing 10 of them. It was after the shooting that the crowd stormed the embassy.

No, there is no confirmed evidence that Americans (such as US Marines or consulate security personnel) fired at protesters today at the US consulate in Karachi.**

Major news reports from sources like Al Jazeera, AFP (via France24 and others), Reuters, Associated Press, and others describe a violent protest on March 1, 2026 (which aligns with "today" given the current time of late February 28 in HST, crossing into March 1 in Pakistan time zones). Protesters, angered by the reported US-Israeli assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stormed or attempted to storm the US consulate in Karachi. They smashed windows, set fires (including parts of the building or nearby structures like a police post), and clashed with security.

Casualties: Reports vary slightly but indicate at least 6–9 people killed and others injured (e.g., 20+ wounded, many with bullet wounds). The deaths and injuries resulted from clashes, with security forces using tear gas, batons, and live fire to disperse the crowd and prevent breaching the compound.

Key points on who fired:
- Most credible outlets (Al Jazeera, Reuters, AP) attribute the gunfire and fatalities to **Pakistani security forces/police/paramilitary** responding to the attempt to storm the consulate.
- Some social media posts and less-verified reports (e.g., YouTube titles, certain X posts) claim "US military" or "US Marines" opened fire, but these appear unsubstantiated or sensationalized. Mainstream coverage does not confirm direct US personnel firing; instead, it emphasizes local Pakistani forces handling the perimeter and response.
- One Reuters report notes gunfire sounds and tear gas by police, with the crowd pushed back after breaching an outer wall.

The incident stems from heightened tensions over the Iran strikes, with pro-Iran protesters (including Shiite groups) targeting the US consulate as a symbol. The situation was reportedly brought under control, with no indications of ongoing firing.

If you're seeing specific videos or claims suggesting otherwise, they may be from unverified sources or misattributions—always cross-check with established news outlets for accuracy in fast-moving events like this.
