ICE officer seen pushing woman to the floor at immigration courthouse is relieved of his current duties, agency says

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer who shoved a woman into a wall and then pushed her to the ground has been “relieved of his current duties,” an ICE official said Friday.

The incident was caught on camera Thursday at an immigration court in New York City – sparking outrage amid growing concern across the country about ICE’s increasingly aggressive tactics in arrests of immigrants.

“The officer’s conduct in this video is unacceptable and beneath the men and women of ICE. Our ICE law enforcement are held to the highest professional standards and this officer is being relieved of current duties as we conduct a full investigation,” ICE Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said Friday. CNN has asked ICE to clarify what “relieved of his current duties” means – and whether the officer is still employed elsewhere within ICE.

In one video of the incident shared on social media, a woman and a girl are seen clinging with locked arms to a man, reportedly the woman’s husband, who is being detained, in a hallway of 26 Federal Plaza, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement District Office in Lower Manhattan. One masked agent grabs her hair as someone says, “Just grab her, grab her and pull her away.” Moments after separating the woman and the man, she is removed from the hallway into a nearby room.

when they say "current duties" it only means he's being reassigned to a different location so he can do the same things all over again.

"relieved of current duties" is a whole lot different than "suspended from employment". Even if they said he was "terminated" they could be weaseling it and saying later on he was "terminated" from his present duties. The right way would be to say "Terminated from any further employment by any Federal agency and prohibited from use by any government contractor for providing any services related to immigration and customs enforcement as well as facilities where detainees are kept, transportation services for detainees are involved and any administrative involvement or physical involvement either alone, in a group of personnel or in any supervisory capacity of such personnel conducting patrol, surveillance, apprehension, transportation, detention and all aspects of detention facilities."

I doubt it.

These masked agents guys did worse to this US citizen, but no word of repercussions, only ICE saying they were not ICE agents. It should be illegal for any agents to be masked.

Seriously? Has she seen any of the videos? This has become an everyday occurrence and that is just the videos that we are able to view.

Yesterday the story was a 79 year old man recovering from heart surgery, a business owner AND a U.S. citizen. What kind of monsters take down women and old people with brute force?

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer who was initially relieved of his duties after being captured on video pushing a woman to the ground outside an immigration court in New York City has been returned to duty, two U.S. officials familiar with the matter told CBS News.

The officials, who requested anonymity to discuss an internal move that has not been publicly announced, said the ICE officer was placed back on duty after a preliminary review of the incident.

CBS News reached out to representatives for ICE, the Department of Homeland Security and the White House requesting comment.

The move is a striking about-face, just a few days after the DHS released a statement denouncing the officer's conduct as "unacceptable and beneath the men and women of ICE."

"Our ICE law enforcement are held to the highest professional standards and this officer is being relieved of current duties as we conduct a full investigation," the department said in its statement on Friday. It's unclear where that investigation stands.
