Senate GOP eyes Medicare cuts with Trump's blessing

Source: Axios

President Trump gave Republican senators a green light to explore ways to save money on Medicare during a meeting at the White House, senators said Thursday.

Why it matters: Changes to save money on Medicaid have already proven contentious with some Republicans. Medicare could open a new can of worms.

  • "The president is willing to eliminate any waste, fraud and abuse anywhere," Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) told Axios about the White House meeting Wednesday night that he attended, "which opens up Medicare, as well," he added.
  • "What the president made clear is he does not want to see any cuts to beneficiaries, but to go after... the waste, fraud and abuse," said Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), clarifying that Trump opened up Medicare as an option at the meeting.
  • Politico first reported on the Medicare discussions.

  • What to watch: One possibility being floated is a bill from Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), which would get savings from the Medicare Advantage program.

I’m sick of hearing this from Republicans - yeah the very same ones who fill budget bills with their porky pet projects for years!

Oh you mean like a $45 million PARADE?

Or do you mean God only knows how many millions spent (and continuing) on phony Congressional Biden investigations?

Or a billion dollars for a King Midas plane?

How about taking money from YOUR Congressional perks for a change.

F you and the horse you rode in on!

streets on which this unholy "parade" rolls! And yes... stop paying for trump's golf outings, as well as his stays at his own hotels. Have him pay for his own golf game, and pay for not only his hotel stays, but also pays for any secret service or other government employee staying there for trump's "security." It's ridiculous that this was not done from the very beginning. You wanna be a mult-millionaire president and rip off the government by killing programs and services that we, the people, need and approve of? Then you can pay for your own leisure trips. Come to think of it, he should be given the same per diem for food, etc., that anyone else in the government gets. And not a penny more!

I can only imagine that cutting Medicaid or Medicare will impact most of the folks who live here, either immediately or when they find themselves in need of long term care. I guess that's what they voted for.

There are also 500 billion dollars in cuts to Medicare in the Bill the House passed.

For all of the people who rave about Medicare Advantage plans, Magats want to turn Medicare into MA plans, that’s how they will kill it.

Republicans will make sure nothing happens until after the election so they can say Democrats are just spreading FUD ( Fear, uncertainty, and doubt) and
when the time comes they will blame Democrats again.

If their retirement was tied to social security and their health care plan had the bones of Medicare we would not have to keep these relentless attacks. These people are greedy thieves. Nothing less.
