MSNBC's Ari Melber Reportedly in Talks With Rival Networks

Source: MEDIAite

May 27th, 2025, 8:46 pm

Ari Melber, a longtime ratings powerhouse for MSNBC, is checking out his options as parent company Comcast prepares to spin off the cable network, according to a new report by Lachlan Cartwright at Breaker. Melber, who also serves as MSNBC’s chief legal correspondent, has consistently delivered both television and online viewers for MSNBC, plus his audience tends to skew younger than most cable news viewers — a reality of the actuarial tables that sends chills through many a network executive’s heart.

The fact he’s repeatedly been able to land guests all across the political spectrum is an added draw in the current political climate; even on MSNBC, Melber has not drawn the targeted ire of President Donald Trump’s critical social media posts like many other cable hosts. His steady ratings are a big part of why Melber has been a recurring presence on Mediaite’s Most Influential in Media list in recent years, especially his digital strength.

Being able to pull in tens of thousands of views with each clip of The Beat with Ari Melber is nothing to sneeze at; our calculation last December credited the show with over 1.5 billion views overall. As Cartwright’s report — cheekily headlined “Will The Beat go on?” — noted, YouTube is “part of new MSNBC boss Rebecca Kutler’s strategy for growth,” and since Rachel Maddow rolled back her schedule to just Monday evenings and special events like the presidential debates, losing Melber to a competitor, “would be seen as a big blow.”

“Ari Melber, 45, has held meetings with rival networks and is considering departing the Comcast owned MSNBC as it prepares to be spun into a new company led by Mark Lazarus called VERSANT, according to two people familiar with the matter,” Breaker reported. “He is also weighing whether to start his own media company.”

He is pretty much the only one (or at least "the fall guy" ) who had been willing to spar with the worst of the worst of the scum RW loons. People like Stephen Miller and Felix Slater, and even John Eastman's lawyer!

I don't see Ari Melber "leaning to the right" at all. He pushes back against the right-wingers he has on his show.

Doesn't matter much to me; regardless of where he goes, I sure as hell won't be watching. Hope he pursues that notion of starting his own media company---could be amusing, considering I never saw him exhibit enough talent to conduct a decent interview.

I trust I've made my opinion of Melber clear...

And after the interview Are would bring on Chai Momanduri, a Democrat and confident, to treat tear apart the Republican's lies.

Anyone that thinks Ari is a Republican or gets his lunch eaten by them doesn't watch the show.

I've always found Ari to be an intelligent and articulate host. He does have the ability to bring in magats as guests, and he acquits himself well in those interviews. I agree with BumRushDaShow that he does not lean to the right. He doesn't breathe fire against trump as Lawrence O'Donnell does, which I love. Ari's popularity with the youth demographic is drawn from his YouTube and TikTok clips, which I have never watched. I assume it would be due to his incessant and maddening obsession with quoting Rap and Hip Hop artists as if they are on par with great philosophers. I hope he stays.

What I really don't get is pairing some serious senator with a hip hop artist in the same interview.

(that used to have a whole host of people rotating through there including Ed Schultz, Cenk, and Sharpton)

He is a lawyer but also has modern music (rap/hip hop) as a "hobby" and incorporates that into his show. He has side gig shows that include interviews with those musicians.

This was his Stephen Miller interview (before the election) -

i agree Ari has seemed to take the other side at times, but I think it's pointing out the fallacies as when he had Peter Navaro on talking about the "Green Bay sweep". But I haven't watched him for awhile as I disconnected from cable.

back when I watched more MSNBC, but I did respect his knowledge and his willingness to have those clowns on and actually have lengthy discussions with them.

I once saw Joy Reid have on loser Rep. Jack Kingston and she gave him no quarter each time he attempted to Foxify facts with all the assigned right-wing talking points and I remember thinking that was how I wished ALL talking heads dealt with the cult. But I've also seen her be blatantly partisan in allowing her buddies to wax hypocritically on various topics.

he did have good charts on the next steps and where things were (obviously all now moot). MSNBC seemed to have their "legal contributors" (like Weissman, Vance, Figliuzzi & McQuade) handle the legal stuff where it didn't seem like he had much left to be able to contribute in that respect (although those "designated hitters" obviously had way more experience, in some cases, longer than he has been alive ). He could be frustrating at times with the "both sides" but it wasn't near the level of a Schmuck Toad or Tweety.

Sometimes thinking about posting feels like walking down a dark alley in here. I think part of it is being so sick and tired having to deal for so long now with the rampant evil on the other side. It changes us.

Bring back Joy Reid! I doubt she'll come back now though, after the way she was treated.

... in getting the opposition on his show, and challenging them. He's polite, but will not accept an outright lie. I don't like the Rap asides... very tired. But, I didn't like Rachel's cocktail hour, either. MSNBC should get Joy Reid back. maybe they can afford her, if Ari leaves? Their new shows are just awful. Lawrence O'Donnell is the best they have, right now.
