Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr threatened news outlets owned by Comcast and suggested the companys licensed operations could be in jeopardy because of its immigration coverage.
On Wednesday, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung slammed MSNBC a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, which is owned by Comcast and CNN over their coverage of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Last month, the Trump administration deported Abrego Garcia to El Salvador in contravention of a 2019 court order barring his removal to that country. Abrego Garcias lawyer has challenged the deportation, which a federal court ruled illegal. Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a district court ruling and instructed the administration to facilitate Abrego Garcias return.
So far, however, the Trump administration has refused, stating that the matter is up to the Salvadoran government.
On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karolin Leavitt was joined in the briefing room by Patty Morin, whose daughter was raped and murdered by an undocumented immigrant in 2023. He was convicted of the killing this week. Of the three major cable news networks, only Fox News carried the briefing.

(124,248 posts)And what's with exploiting the woman whose daughter was murdered by an immigrant? Did Abrego Garcia do it? Did a Venezuelan gang member do it? (The actual murderer was from El Salvador.) If we deport all immigrants and don't let any more in, there will be no more murders, right? Baghdad Barbie's "logic" tells us that because Jeffrey Dahmer was a resident of Milwaukee, we should watch out for Milwaukeans because they're probably cannibals.

(150,860 posts)so they are suggesting pulling licenses from local NBC stations.
So for example here in Philly where Comcast is headquartered, after a ridiculous and insane rearrangement of both TV and radio stations back in the mid-90s with deregulation, our local CBS-affiliate TV station WCAU, became a NBC-affiliate station as "NBC10" (and owned by Comcast). They eventually moved the broadcast studio from City Line Ave (on the Bala Cynwd, Montgomery County side of the street), down to the 2nd Comcast Tower (once the building was completed in 2018 and technical issues were resolved) -

(150,860 posts)Comcast-land on Comcast internet.
These are the 2 Comcast towers here (both the tallest buildings in the city) -
And growing up here, until 1984, there was no building taller than "Billy Penn's Hat" (referencing the statue of William Penn that sits on top of City Hall Tower - seen in the above pic at the bottom left).
AND when they were building each of those Comcast buildings, out of superstition, they put a little William Penn statuette at the top -
(sorry to dump that in here )

(12,567 posts)That should end the threat of their ownership of MSNBC giving Trump a reason to threaten their over-the-air NBC licenses.

(150,860 posts)No it won't because they currently (and will probably continue to) share personalities across their holdings.
I.e., people like Kornaki and probably Schmuck Toad.
