Trump's D.C. U.S. attorney pick appeared on Russian state media over 150 times
Source: Washington Post
Hours before President Donald Trump announced U.S. missile strikes on Syria in response to a chemical attack that killed 90 civilians in April 2017, Ed Martin said on the Russian state television network RT America that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad might not be to blame. Instead, Martin told viewers, the situation was engineered in Washington by the people that want war in Syria.
In early 2022, Martin told an interviewer on the same arm of RTs global network that theres no evidence of a Russian military buildup on Ukraines borders, criticizing U.S. officials as warmongering and ignoring Russias security concerns. Russia invaded nine days later, igniting a war that continues today.
Martin is now interim U.S. attorney for D.C. and Trumps pick to serve full time in the role. But as a conservative activist and former Missouri Republican official, he appeared more than 150 times on RT and Sputnik networks funded and directed by the Russian government as a guest commentator from August 2016 to April 2024, according to a search of their websites and the Internet Archives database of television broadcasts.
Martin did not disclose the appearances last month on a Senate Judiciary Committee questionnaire, which asks nominees to list all media interviews. Analysis of television archives suggests he went on RT and Sputnik more often than on any major cable network during that span.

(11,760 posts)so Putin would have the True control over Syria.
Putin gave Assad poison gas bombs.
Assad used them on towns that had "some" rebels.
Russia/Putin and Assad should be in the World Court in Hague for Violating the Geneva Convention for the use of chemical weapons in war.......
Of course, Putin would just appeal it to the U.S. Supreme Court and be acquitted.
When the U.N. inspectors had finished a year long, on the ground, inspection, they were a few days from returning to the Netherlands with proof that the bombs were Russian, and Assad had wiped out countless numbers of his own innocent men women children and babies. The rebels were still being protected from Putin/Assad by a U.S. Military base in Syria. The day the UN Inspectors were to be returning to the Hague, Trump *MYSTERIOUSLY* closed the base and made the soldiers abandon everything and bug out overnight.....
leaving the Rebels totally un-protected, and giving the base and all the equipment to Assad......
There was no way, in fucking HELL, that Trump wasn't acting on Putin's direct orders for Trump to pull our military base out of Syria.
As the UN inspectors were literally running to get out of there, Assad was already bombing the area around the airport......
It is amazing that the Rebel Kurds? were recently successful in over throwing Assad, and making HIM run to Putin in Russia.....

Martin is now interim U.S. attorney for D.C. and Trumps pick to serve full time in the role. But as a conservative activist and former Missouri Republican official, he appeared more than 150 times on [the Russian state television network RT] and Sputnik networks funded and directed by the Russian government as a guest commentator from August 2016 to April 2024, according to a search of their websites and the Internet Archives database of television broadcasts.
What makes a story like this so striking is that its really made up of three overlapping problems.
The first is that Martin agreed to appear more than 150 times on Russian propaganda outlets.
The second is what Martin said during those on-air appearances: The Republican lawyer apparently had a knack for offering commentary that aligned with Kremlin talking points, including telling one host that there was no evidence of a Russian military buildup on Ukraines borders the week before the Russian military crossed those borders and began a war in Ukraine.
But every bit as important, if not more so, is the third problem: As part of his presidential nomination to serve as the U.S. attorney in one of the nations most important prosecutorial offices, Martin was required to disclose these media appearances to the Senate Judiciary Committee and according to the Posts report, at least initially, he did not. (The article has not been independently verified by MSNBC or NBC News.)......
For those unfamiliar with the Missouri Republican, Martins greatest hits package features misguided and unnecessary fights with the dean of Georgetown Universitys law school, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, former President Joe Biden and Democratic Reps. Robert Garcia of California and Eugene Vindman of Virginia. During his brief tenure, Martin has also:
demoted multiple senior officials involved in Jan. 6 insurrection cases;
compared one of the criminal charges used against Jan. 6 defendants to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II;
falsely described himself as one of the presidents lawyers;
weighed in on a civil case involving the White House, which had literally nothing to do with his office;
intervened in a dubious Environmental Protection Agency investigation;
made a dubious decision in a case involving Republican Rep. Cory Mills of Florida;
launched the wildly unnecessary Operation Whirlwind;
also launched the wildly unnecessary Project 1512 initiative;
also launched a wildly unnecessary election accountability unit;
made a creepy public vow to wield his prosecutorial powers against those who get in Elon Musks way;
engaged in brazen conflict of interest in a Jan. 6 case, in which he effectively took both sides of a criminal case;
and kicked off a radically unnecessary investigation into Jack Smith and a law firm that gave the former special counsel pro bono legal services.
In a piece for New York magazine, Elie Honig recently described the lawyer as Trumps dangerous and ridiculous prosecutor. Martin seems to be going out of his way to prove his many critics right.
