'We're here to flip this state': Bernie Sanders and AOC visit Idaho

Source: Idaho Press

NAMPA —.................

At least 12,000 were in attendance Monday to “feel the Bern” — a phrase that was thrown around in reference to Bernie Sanders’ two presidential campaigns..............

....................

Sanders pointed to Trump’s inauguration where three of the wealthiest men in America, including Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, stood behind him.

“We can’t let billionaires buy elections,” Sanders said.

..............
..............

Ocasio-Cortez also called out Idaho’s U.S. senators, Mike Crapo and Jim Risch, and representatives, Mike Simpson and Russ Fulcher.

“You know who from Idaho voted to gut Medicaid for everybody?” Ocasio-Cortez said. “... They know it is deeply unpopular. They know that it hurts the working families of Idaho, but they are not here to serve working families. They are here to serve themselves and the billionaires.”

Reflecting on Trump’s rise to power, Ocasio-Cortez said it was a long time coming, pointing to the growing class divide. She noted the influence of lobbyists and special interests among members of Congress.

“How can anyone possibly make an objective vote on health care, energy or war when their own money is tied up in pharmaceutical, oil and gas or defense company stocks?” she said.

Ensuring their own interests, Ocasio-Cortez said those in power have been stoking divisions to keep constituents distracted.

There are about 800k people who live in ADA and Canyon Counties and 13k people showed up. It was on a Monday, during peak traffic hours to get to the venue. Seriously, it’s a thing. Anyway that is a staggering number considering the location and time of day. It was 🔥🔥🔥

Stadium at capacity, people turned away. Pure positive energy, a lot of young people.
Now, if they would just show up to vote.

In 2012 Shaun Winkler, the leader of the Bonner County Ku Klux Klan, ran for sheriff. He got 187 votes in the primary - less than a tenth of what the GOP candidate got. I have NO idea why a county with no black people in it has a KKK chapter, but they do.

If he'd have run for sheriff in Benewah County he probably would have won.

Idaho is full of racists that have moved from other states to make it an utopia of white supremacy idiots. My husband has family who have lived there for 3 generations and they don’t know their state anymore.

...is if you ran a Democratic candidate with no opposition he or she would still lose.

The Idaho Senate has six Democrats. Four are from Boise, one from Hailey and the last from Pocatello.
The Idaho House has nine Democrats and they're all from Boise.

(Because the districts in this state are apportioned by population and Boise has roughly one-eighth of the population of the entire state, Ada County, where Boise is, has 12 legislative districts all to itself, each with one senator and two representatives. Even in one of the few non-extremist parts of the state Democrats can't get elected. And just so you know, Trump carried Ada County in the last three elections.)
