Trump Denies FEMA Aid Extension in State He Won Three Times

Source: Newsweek

Published Apr 11, 2025 at 5:53 PM EDT | Updated Apr 11, 2025 at 6:38 PM EDT

Democratic Gov. Josh Stein announced Friday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has denied North Carolina's request to extend the full reimbursement period for Hurricane Helene recovery efforts.

Why It Matters

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which struck in September 2024, then-presidential candidate Donald Trump voiced sharp criticism of FEMA's response in the swing state of North Carolina, accusing the agency of being too slow to release recovery funds and failing to coordinate effectively with state officials. Trump repeatedly claimed that federal bureaucracy was delaying critical aid, saying in one press briefing, "The people of North Carolina deserve faster, better action. FEMA needs to cut the red tape and get the job done."

He also suggested that political bias might be influencing the pace of assistance, given Trump's staunch support in hard-hit areas of western North Carolina, though FEMA denied the allegations.

Trump secured North Carolina's 15 electoral votes in the past three presidential elections. In 2016, he defeated Hillary Clinton with 49.83 percent of the vote to her 46.17 percent, a margin of 3.66 percentage points. The 2020 election saw a tighter race, with Trump narrowly surpassing Joe Biden by 1.34 percentage points. In the 2024 election, Trump expanded his lead, securing 50.86 percent of the vote against Kamala Harris's 47.65 percent, marking his third consecutive win in the state.

As a note, that 2024 difference in votes was 3.21%, which was actually a tiny improvement of Clinton's 3.66% difference.

Yeah. FAFO time. I have friends there. They are not happy and are trying to survive. As Democrats, they most certainly did not vote for that orange gibbon, but they have to suffer along with the idiots who voted for it.

What upsets me the most is that those morons will vote for him again. As long as they can boast about 'owning the libs', they will die horrible deaths just to be able to say that. The lunacy is strong in my home state. Always has been.

It wasn't until Obama's first run that the DC suburbs reached a critical mass, flipping the state blue. Same for North Carolina. As Raleigh-Durham, the Triad and Mecklenburg County grows, they too will reach the point where they offset Bumfuckville and take NC blue. Just not quite there yet. Frustrating.

It's not enough that the state went for him, they also went for a Democratic governor and he's punishing them for their perceived disloyalty. Total submission is the only thing he will accept and that would pause him for going after any individual state.

We live in WNC! Specifically Asheville (45 yrs) a beautiful blue dot surrounded by a sea of red. We got our asses handed to us with hurricane Helene! Check YouTube. No cell 72 hrs, water 18days, electricity 20 days. FEMA, the national guard, state, local government, neighbors and total strangers stepped up and did their job!
Then the rumors began, FEMA was condemning land, FEMA was covering up over 10,000 deaths. Federal Congressman (Chuck Edwards R) talked shit about FEMA which didn’t help. It’s not if a natural disaster will effect you it’s when a natural disaster hits your region. We need a well funded federal agency specifically FEMA. Our job, if possible full tank of gas, cash (10’s-20,s) chainsaw, caned food, beans, rice, water filter, camp stove and solid relationship with neighbors.

I guess they don't want federal help. Oh well, less deficit spending I guess.

And for Democrats a quick reminder, don't feel bad for people who expressly say that they don't want or need your help. There are plenty of others who do and will appreciate it.

And the areas that naturally aren’t (i.e, Asheville), have been gerrymandered to hell and back. Those in the red areas voted for cutting their own throats. Hope they’ve learned their lesson (not overly optimistic about that, though*). But I have not one scintilla of sympathy for them because they’ve inflicted that self-same throat cutting on their non-Reichwing neighbors.

*As LBJ once said:

“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”

It will be blamed on Biden in the news, or the democratic governor (whom the veto-proof republican legislature took all of the power of the governor away when he was elected in 2024).

The lack of knowledge in actual happenings in this country is horrible, and totally destructive to democracy.

FORTUNATELY, the NC state House LOST their super-majority after the Nov. 2024 election so they can no longer override the new (D) Gov. John Stein's veto (at least without (D) help)!

was the loon who ran for Lt. Governor and that maybe woke a few people up in that legislative district.

I expect it will get worse there as they copy the "retribution" type of behavior that their leader is engaging in. I don't know what it will take to knock some sense into these people.

How many feet do you have? And do you plan on shooting yourself in all of them?

I'm tempted to feel sorry for you poor, pathetic losers, but all of this could have been avoided very simply, very easily, and with almost no effort at all by simply checking a different box on your ballot. Did you really not know it could have been that easy? Are you too stupid to know it would have been that easy?

Look, I know you all got Research Triangle and all that shit. But could you do anything to convince me you aren't all a bunch of criminally stupid motherfuckers?

I could say that I don't want any of you to drown in the next hurricane, but that's just because I don't want any of your corpses polluting our coastal waters.
