Trump envoy: Ukraine could be divided like postwar Berlin

Source: The Times

President Trump’s envoy to Ukraine has said the country could be partitioned “almost like Berlin after World War Two” as part of a peace deal.

General Keith Kellogg, a leading figure in US efforts to end the three-year war, suggested that British and French troops could adopt zones of control in the west of the country as part of a “reassurance force”, with Russia’s army in the occupied east. Between them would be Ukrainian forces and a demilitarised zone.

Kellogg, 80, said the Anglo-French-led force west of the Dnipro river, which bisects Ukraine from north to south and runs through Kyiv, would “not be provocative at all” to Moscow. He said Ukraine was a big enough country to accommodate several armies seeking to enforce a ceasefire.

“You could almost make it look like what happened with Berlin after World War Two, when you had a Russian zone, a French zone, and a British zone, a US zone,” he said.

Stalin took a large chunk of Poland and "gave" it to the Ukraine SSR (the Ukrainian city Lviv used to be the Polish Lwow). He previously deported all the Crimean Tatars to Uzbekistan, at least those he didn't outright kill or starve. Yes, definitely a pattern here.

The USSR had ceded them to Japan in exchange for Japan’s half of Sakhalin Island after WW1.
Like the say about location and valuation: money. And real estate is real property and nations, like people, murder for both.

The Wall made me sick, as did the fear. We visited East Berlin. The stores' shelves were barely stocked. A hotel where we stopped for lunch was out of food at 1 p.m. There were still many bombed and burned-out buildings, something that you did not see in West Berlin.

Video: The Sweet Legacy of a Berlin Airlift Hero

When American and British forces embarked on a massive airlift mission to get food and other needed supplies to West Berliners in 1948, one young U.S. pilot came up with a way to sweeten the operation for German children.

Retired Air Force Col. Gail S. Halvorsen was a 27-year-old lieutenant in Cold War Germany when he noticed the conditions the children of Berlin were living in and wanted to help.

At first, he handed out gum and candy from his ration pack, but then began attaching handkerchief parachutes to chocolate bars and dropping them from his aircraft to the children below.

They didn't fully prepare me for the reality of the thing, or the no-man's land in between. I thought of the courage of everyone who had tried and/or succeeded to cross that to get to freedom. It was sobering, and it made me angry. I was so happy when the damned thing came down in 1989.

I've read the Gail Halvorsen story. He brought a lot of joy to kids during the Airlift. A wonderful man.

The Holodomor in The Donbas was genocide. The ethnic cleansing of Crimean's from the Crimean Peninsula was genocide. Russia then populated both places with ethnic Russians. Years later, Russia is claiming that it is the Russians in those areas that are suffering. Bullshit!!! We must never reward genocide for any reason.

…. that land to Russia.

Non negotiable parts of any peace treaty:

*. Ukraine gets all of its lands back including the Crimea.

*. Ukraine controls what happens to the minerals under its own soil.

*. Russia has to pay for the damages it has caused.

*. Any Russian living on Ukrainian territory prior to 2014 can stay but they have to swear
loyalty to Ukraine.

Until then any Russian or N. Korean soldier on Ukrainian land can either surrender or die.

So the plan for "peace" would be Ukraine ceding their sovereignty to Europe, us, and Russia.
Pretty hollow victory.
