Massive cuts to NASA science proposed in early White House budget plan

Source: Washington Post

NASA’s science budget could be cut nearly in half under an early version of President Donald Trump’s budget proposal to Congress, a move that would terminate billions of dollars’ worth of ongoing and future missions, according to two individuals with direct knowledge of the administration’s plan.

The budget plan, sent to NASA by the Office of Management and Budget, would give NASA’s Science Mission Directorate $3.9 billion, down from its current budget of about $7.3 billion, according to the individuals who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the details.

NASA’s astrophysics budget would take a huge hit, dropping from about $1.5 billion to $487 million. Planetary science would see a drop from $2.7 billion to $1.9 billion.

The Hubble and Webb space telescopes — which have been beaming views of deep space back to Earth — would remain supported under the proposal. However, no other telescope would be funded. That includes the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, which has been designed to study distant galaxies and faraway planets from an orbital outpost about a million miles from Earth. The hardware of the Roman is in place and being integrated and tested at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. The Roman is scheduled to launch as early as September 2026.

Woman are breeders. Evangelical popes tell us who were are permitted to love. The death of science. A GOP that will disappear disagreeable women and people of color. A weakened armed forces and an economy run solely on the whim of a pathological Nazi.

And yes, he said he spends his time trying to stay away from all the MAGAts. They supposedly put in place a statement about "no talking about politics while you're on the clock", but he said the MAGAts don't abide by it. They stand around talking as loud as they can about how wonderful their cult leader is. No one does anything about it.

Maybe if a lot of them got shit-canned, they wouldn't be so excited about their Orange leader.

That's what happens when you scatter certain agendas around in different divisions and then blur the distinction between those agendas and other.

You can't proclaim the Tuskegee Airmen--hardly a DEI initiative, and their importance predates DEI--because the teaching of African-American, it's said, is DEI so that banning DEI means going back to the "old days" when black American history wasn't taught. (Sorry, I was taught a lot in the early-mid '70s, but that predates DEI. But you insist that all black American history is "DEI" and when that's jiu-jitsued against you it's ugly.)

So it is with NASA. NASA proclaimed "anthropogenic climate change" as an all-encompassing mission and teamed up with an advocacy group to piggy back on their satellite, it taints the entire "brand." Trust is lost and the entire edifice must be torn down.

Plus it's not like a lot of the Trump 'team' has much curiosity about things that aren't absolutely practical in a really pedestrian sense of the word.
