Trump floats plan for undocumented farm and hotel workers to work legally in the U.S.

Source: NBC News

April 10, 2025, 5:47 PM EDT / Updated April 10, 2025, 5:51 PM EDT

President Donald Trump suggested at a Cabinet meeting Thursday that undocumented people working on farms and in hotels would be allowed to leave the country and return as legal workers if their employers vouched for them. Trump said at the meeting with reporters present that “we have to take care of our farmers, the hotels and, you know, the various places where they tend to, where they tend to need people.”

"So a farmer will come in with a letter concerning certain people, saying they’re great, they’re working hard. We’re going to slow it down a little bit for them, and then we’re going to ultimately bring them back. They’ll go out. They’re going to come back as legal workers."

It was unclear what he meant by “slow it down a little bit for them.” The administration has been pouring resources into arresting, detaining and deporting undocumented immigrants to fulfill Trump’s campaign pledge to conduct a history-making mass deportation of immigrants from the United States.

Trump said the administration is going to work with people if they “go out ... in a nice way.” “We’re going to work with them right from the beginning on, trying to get them back in legally. So it gives you real incentive. Otherwise they never come back. They’ll never be allowed once a certain period of time goes by, which is probably going to be 60 days,” he said.

Slavery.

Around payday those lists would be turned over to Noem’s goons. They’ve got quotas to keep.

And even if the workers don't get ICEd, that's a vast amount of leverage the plantation owners employers have. Don't like spraying pesticides? Don't like your wages? Don't like getting groped and assaulted? Want to work somewhere else? Time to call the goons.

It plainly discloses that the right hand doesn’t know what the far-right hand is doing.

they describe the status quo. This isn't Trump's plan, this is someone finally getting through to him that this was a wedge issue, not one that was ever meant to seriously threaten the MAGA voter's indentured servants.

Hell, they may even invoke some arcane law that requires Blue States to apprehend and return any "farm workers" that escape.

Everything old is new again!

But other illegals are still illegal.

Because farmers voted for their cult leader. Fuck every single one of them.

And because wealthy hotel chains need cheap labor too. And their industry leaders voted for the cult. Fuck them also.

There are those who HAVE BEEN in the country "legally", with proper visas, green cards, and other required paperwork, and even those BORN HERE, making them "natural born citizens"... yet they have STILL been rounded up, and illegally deported without any "due process".

And when the government is confronted with those facts, they respond with "Oops. Too late. We no longer have jurisdiction, so that's that.".

Most of the people who voted for Trump re:immigration don't care if they're here legally or not.

They aren't pasty white people and they speak with an accent, therefore they have no right to be here.

That's a broad disparaging brush.

Currently, the percentage of Democrats who identify as white is around 56% to 64% depending upon the source of info.

You've just maligned the current majority of the Democratic Party.

Perhaps you'd like to reword and re-frame your assertion.
I find it wholly objectionable.

The Republican mantra is that they all should be deported and that's it. What would make even more sense, is to just process them where they are.

I hope his base raises hell for him backtracking. Guess the big hotel owners and ag businesses finally got through his thick skull they need low paid workers. I wonder if the big chicken processors will be included.
